Actually, I do want to go off on a rant, but if opening works for Dennis Miller, I might as well steal it for this post.

There are a number o fpeople that make me want to scream "What the fuck are you thinking?" at them of late, one of which is Rod Dreher. His recent screed against Islam is not just poorly thought-out, but almost dangerous.

I say almost because it's just a case of him preaching to the choir that shares his willful ignorance and hate. It's doubtful that anyone who knows the first damned thing about Islam will be convinced, so he's just indulging in what I (having never seen anything he wrote before the WTC attack,) can only call opportunistic cowardice. Perhaps he never wrote about the eeeeeeeeeeevil of a religion he does not understand before September 11th made bigotry against Muslims fashionable again, but then, perhaps he was more guarded and less inflammatory before.

I'm also made by the pinheaded response to Bill Maher's statements about the attack, for that matter. I even agree with him, about how it would require at least some degree of fearlessness to carry out that kind of suicide attack, but I disagree with his assertion that it was not a cowardly attack. Yes, Mr. Maher, the attack on the World Trade Center was a coard's act, but it was the ones who ordered it who were the cowards.

Moving on, let me vent another bit of my spleen on the overarching thread of the war, this time directed against the people who are yammering on about how the US attacks on facilities in Afghanistan make them "ashamed to be an American."

GET THE FUCK OVER YOURSELVES!

We were attacked first, to start with, and if America was the bloodthirsty pit of evil you make it out to be, we would have attacked a hel of a lot sooner than we did. For that matter, we would be targeting civilians with bombs, rather than food. One of the major differences between the US and the terrorists who ordered the attack on the WTC is that our intent is to break the Al'Quiada network, while theirs was to break Western morale by killing as many civilians as possible.

And I find a great deal of irony in the fact that one of the primary voices in the chorus of those think America should be ashamed of itself proudly stated that she saw no difference between the Afghans and the terrorists. Do you truly not realise how ignorant this marks you as being? Worse, how it shows you as willfully blinding yourself to anything that might prove your anti-American statements as nothing more than self-righteousness?

Bah.

Both Malcolm MacDowell and Dennis Hopper appear to be in the upcoming movie on the Sci-Fi channel that was based on Firestarter.

Looks like it may be kinda neat.
