I decided to try a somewhat different experiment in flash fiction than the norm, which is to choose something and write 100 words about it. I had a mental image that just wouldn't go away, and when I decided to start writing about it, I also decided that for each installment, I would choose a range of numbers, then take the collective reples I got, average them out, and that would be how many words I had to work with.

Not sure exactly when I'll be writing the next one, but I'l go ahead and open the voting for it. Pick a number between 10 - 300, between now and 8pm on Thursday, May 15th. Comments are screened in the meanwhile, since it's harder for people to rig the wordcount that way. ;)

At first, I thought it was just the weather. I’ve suffered from sinus trouble for as long as I can remember (all the spitting during school – ach, not the best possible thing in the world where hopes of popularity are concerned), and when it gets rainy, the barometer I call a nose obliges by filling with mucus.

So I hear rain outside when I wake up, and it makes perfect sense, this idea that all I have troubling me is the usual.

Wrong. When I try blowing my nose, I discover it’s far, far worse than I’d assumed.

I have a squid living in my nose.
