More Like the CHOKER, Amirite: Justice League International Annual #2 (JLI 18/?)
Nov. 2nd, 2025 04:22 pm
This funny Joker comic hit the market on the same day as The Killing Joke. I can’t emphasize that enough.
And that’s not even the most baffling thing about it.
( THREE staples?!?! )
Cemetery Kids Don't Die #4 is dawning horror.
Nov. 2nd, 2025 10:51 amIssue #3'd ended on Birdie realizing that her friend Wilson was also in danger from the VR game Nightmare Cemetery.
Her brother Pik was in a coma, mentally taken into the game by the " King of Sleep ". The King'd shoved one of his claws through her friend Enid's left eye while she was helping look for Pik.
Wilson had also been helping her - they'd both taken sleeping pills to get around the hard time-limit on their Dreamwaves, expecting to be able to wake each other up.
But she wasn't able to wake him. She was grounded by her worried and frustrated dad, able only to watch videos about other victims of Nightmare Cemetery.
( She found someone else who'd lost a sibling. )

Writing and Sleeping Stuff
Oct. 31st, 2025 08:23 pmLet’s see if this works right – I’ve been avoiding posting links here because I don’t know if I have the formatting right – there was something special to do to a link back in the LJ days, but some of those formats changed here.
Check out www.magnetsandladders.org for my story, “Zeke Weatherly, All of Them” in their current Fall and Winter 2005 issue. This is in a series I’m writing about the traditional elements (earth, air, fire, and water along with some additional ones like electricity, cold, light, darkness, and so on) and they’ve published three of them so far (they’ve also passed on two of them).
I’ve got my new bed set up, thanks to me paying extra money to get a professional installer familiar with Wayfair’s products to put it together. Now I have that rarest of things, empty shelves. Here’s the one I went with, though in brown instead of the weathered gray:
https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/ivy-bronx-metal-bed-frame-with-bookcase-headboard-w111718437.html
I’ll get things put back less fast this time, because it took me about four days to stop hurting because I way overextended myself
After today’s editing session (and 1.5 hours of searching in vain for a 16" replacement seat for a café chair in speckled green cloth and a couple of other things) we’re eighteen pages from the end of Love is a Battlefield. That’s a complex eighteen pages with a wide array of emotions in it. I’ll be curious about what
lanalucy picks next – there are several good options.
And here we are at the end of the harvest season. I hope all of y’all got a lot out of the harvest this time around.

Last time out, we showcased
( Nobody ever talks about the COST of maintaining moon-sized ships, but if the Galactic Empire had managed its spending better, its Death Stars might not have so many corridors full of bottomless pits to fall into. )

Cemetery Kids Don't Die #3 is traumatic horror.
Oct. 30th, 2025 10:09 amIssue #2'd ended on physical trauma - Enid, one of three going deeper into the VR game Nightmare Cemetery, getting stabbed in the eye.
It was an in-game injury, inflicted by the same thing that'd taken her friend Birdie's brother Pik. He was comatose in the real world - she, waking into it, was bleeding.
Birdie and their friend Wilson saw her the next day.
( " Wow.. what the fuck..? " )

"Wait...We Can Write WOMEN?": Introducing Green Flame (Fire) & Ice Maiden (Ice) (JLI 16/?)
Oct. 30th, 2025 12:34 pm
As this JLI retrospective has chugged along, I've done my best to provide some context. But this time, the context is so involved, I figured I should make a separate post that's all context.
For its first four issues, the Justice League/Justice League International series was at a Bechdel 1. Then female villains stopped appearing and Doctor Light stormed out, putting it at a Bechdel 0...until #12, when two new characters rocketed it to Bechdel 3--where it would remain, more often than not, for as long as they were part of the series.
( Also from 2 nations represented up to 4. )
