Apr. 25th, 2006 01:12 pmLooks like Firefox has started to do to IE what it did to Netscape. Interesting.
I remember back in the day, when IE's big draw was that it was a free download, while Netscape cost you money for a legit copy.
Then once Microsoft broke Netscape's back (AOL buying Netscape, but continuing to use its branded version of IE was the point at which I deem Azrael putting on the Batsuit,) they start backpedaling like a mofo from IE being anything but a core component of the OS. So where once you had to pay the extortionate sum of $40 to browse the net, now you have to cough up for a whole computer's worth of money.
And just as it was then, there's an upstart browser, consuming market share like a cow dropped into the Amazon because it's free, and it sucks less than the current king of the hill.
Will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
