300 is, without a doubt, the manliest movie we're gonna get this year. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the story it's based on, just run a search on the battle of Thermopylae, and get back to us after you're done. We'll wait.

You're back? Good. Now you know why you want to see this movie. There's enough blood in this to make Quentin Tarrantino wet his pants (I hope that's urine stains, anyway), with director Zack Snyder delivering a Jackson Pollack painting straight from the depths of the red period.

The guy playing Leonidas is like a young Brian Blessed, in all the right ways. I'm hoping we get a remake of Flash Gordon in the near future, because a life without him screaming "GORDON'S ALIVE" is not one I want to live. Thirty years ago, Leonidas proved himself as a Spartan warrior by facing down a wolf whose head was about the same size as his head and torso combined, and using the terrain they fought each other on to his advantage. Hmmm, I wonder if there's any connection to the situation ahead of him, where the God-Emperor Xerxes of Persia has decided to tell Greece that the spice must flow, and anybody that feels like getting in the way gets the "I'm Rick James, bitch!" treatment.

Seriously, though, Thermopylae is one of the greatest, and most important, battles in the history of, well, history, and the people who were tapped to adapt Frank Miller's graphic (in a whole lot of different meanings of the word) novel to the screen have given us a glorious tribute to the Spartans who gave their lives to hold the line long enough for the rest of their countrymen to rally against the invaders. It's an overwhelming spectacle of bloodshed and machismo, and I'm going to see it again this weekend.

You could do worse than to join me. It's worth full price.

You could make a pretty decent legal drama with "Godwin's Law" as its title... Every week, one of the people involved in the case turns out to be Der Fuhrer!
