While I don't think he should have been fired for being offensive, he did violate the First Commandment of Comedy: "Make it funny."
If he'd made cracks about the women's basketball players having Adam's apples, that'd have had some humor in it, because of the whole "female athletes are all so mannish" thing that's been with us since people started making jokes about the East German women competing in the Olympics. It might not have been all that funny, but some shred of funny would have been there. But what he said? Not funny, unless you think "Being a black woman" = "Nappy-haired ho". There was no there there, except for the racial angle, and he didn't hit that in a way that had any funny to it.
