Welcome to my world...
Feb. 19th, 2001 01:43 pmMan, where to begin? Haven't had the time to sit down and type something out of much substance, and there's a lot of my life to cover since Friday. So here goes:
On Friday night, K told me she isn't ready to start dating again yet. Damn. OTOH, I'm also attracted to L, and I wouldn't have asked her out if I wound up dating K (at least until after the show wraps.) So that's one moral dilemma mostly out of the way.
Saturday was amazingly good, even though I didn't get anything done before I had to scramble for the theatre. I completely screwed up one furniture change during the show, but the actors all covered for the complete lack of two chairs in the scene in question very well, and all my apologies were met with forgiveness. And the director wasn't there to see it when it happened, so that was a good thing. I don't know whether I stand a chance in hel of ever pulling furniture wrangler duty on any of the shows the various actors who direct ever helm, but since I usually try out for cast slots that isn't a huge deal. It just grated on my sense of perfectionism where my theatre work goes.
After we finished the matinee, they bought us lunch. Then we got to look at the scenery and some of us got to scatter until the evening call - picked up a few comics I wanted, including two of the Strangers In Paradise collections (if I never collect any other series, I plan on sticking with this one to see how it turns out.) Then it was back to the theatre to fulfill my promise that the Great Chair Screwup would never happen again (although I took pride in getting everything damned near perfect for the evening show, I'd like to do that without having the same incentive that I gave myself during the matinee, thanks.)
After the show, it was off to Chuy's for Mexican food (it's hard to pick whether I love them or Tupinamba's better sometime, but the Tupy Taco continues to clinch it.) This was marred slightly by the revelation that I had forgotten my wallet when I left the theatre. But a quick call to the director and a loan from the friends I went to get dinner with fixed that. From the restaurant, I went off to visit some friends, then on toward home and eventual sleep.
The next day, I met the director at the theatre, thanking her profusely, then headed off to have lunch at my parents' place. Lost my patience a couple of times, thanks to my back bugging the hel out of me (man, I can't wait until I get worked on come this Saturday morning.) Wrestling the settee around twice in one day is not a fun thing. Then, after lunch and watching A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia, which I found more fascinating than "Lawrence of Arabia," in part because I've always found looks behind the legend to be more interesting. Hellaciously good performances from Ralph Fiennes as Lawrence, and Siddig al Fadil as Prince Feisal. And the fact that it shows part of exactly how badly things got screwed up in the Middle East was particularly interesting to me. Had a good, if admittedly short, discussion with my Dad about some of the nasty effects the Paris Conference had on the rest of the world (did you know that Ho Chi Minh's delegation was never allowed to meet with any of the major powers there? Imagine how differently the 60s might have turned out if he had just gotten to state his case in front of an audience who cared back then.)
After I left the folx' place, I met a friend to see "Shadow of the Vampire," which had a lot of really funny bits I never expected. Great performances from Willem Defoe and John Malkovich there, so if it's showing, go see it.
On a side note, I think the "curious" emoticon for my journal is funny beyond words...
Wow, written a bit of a book here, so I'll hit "Post," then add anything else that demands attention in later installments. I'll also be posting choice bits from the first reading for the play I got cast in when I get home tonight. Should be fun; it's a one-act based on a story by Twain I never heard of before, which means it has to be the most absolutely obscure thing he ever wrote. :)
