The bar was dark, and silent except for his footsteps. The farewell party was done, and everybody else had gone off to wherever they'd chosen to go to. It was time for him to do the same. He stopped to take one last look back, various scenes from his time here playing out in his mind's eye, then shok his head with a melancholy smile. Enough of all that, he thought. Time to make some new memories.
He left without another look back, not bothering even to hear whether the door shut or not, and walked up the ramp into his ship.
"Where to," the computer asked him.
"First star to teh right," he said, smiling for real this time, "and on til morning."
It was time to see what lay ahead. And with a flash of light from the ships drives, he was off to do exactly that.
