I'm not surprised at the win - Obama was running the better campaign, just like he did in the primaries - but when I was watching the early returns a bit after 8 CST, I predicted that it'd be sometime between 2 and 3 the following morning before we knew who won. So when I turned on my radio at 10:30 and heard McCain's concession speech ... my god.
Will be posting my polling diary tomorrow. I knew that one way or another this was a day that would make history, so I used the notepad they gave me to keep a timestamped log of what all was going through my head.
I am very proud to be an American right now. The United States has a mixed record on so much, but when we do things right, we really do them right. Tonight, four decades after Chicago saw the near death of the Democratic party, we've elected a Democrat as President in the fastest electoral victory in years. Tonight, four decades after the Reverend King was murdered for speaking out in favor of equal treatment, a black man is President-elect.
