And now I can't help but wonder: Did Cortez and Vega date each other at some point? Some of the banter between those two in th hangar deck has left me wondering.

Well, that would explain why Vega isn't a romance option - he's not into female Shepard, and Cortez is interested in male Shepard so that'd be awkward... :)

Would also explain why those two don't wind up together if Shep doesn't pursue Cortex, too.

Not to mention how it makes what Cortez says to Vega at the end of their argument over which ground vehicles are better even more hilarious...

I always pegged Vega as straight, but confident enough in his sexuality to joke and flirt with another guy without being all weirded out. Personally, I like that interpretation better than him being bi or gay, because then you have a somewhat stereotypical 'masculine' straight guy who not only is 'okay' with working with gay guys, he's happily accepting. It is, in its way, an even less common character than the buff gay soldier dude.

That's how I had him figured at first, but then I saw a screen capture that somebody had made of him in bed with MaleShep, and i went "Huh?"

Regardless, great character.
