Scalped...
Sep. 17th, 2002 07:07 pmI decided it was time, so this afternoon, I went into the salon.
"How do you want it cut," the stylist asked, to which I answered "Off!"
So, one french braid later, she hacked off the tail and the back of my neck once again saw the light of day.
Now I just need to decide what to do with it. It represents five years of effort; I can't just throw it away.

Date: 2002-09-17 05:14 pm (UTC)And I thought I'd suggest what I did with mine. The salon that I have my hair cut at will take a braid of hair , depending on how long it is, and donate it to the Children's hospital to make wigs for children who have cancer. I just thought it was a great way to get rid of it, and it made me feel better about chopping it off :)

Date: 2002-09-17 05:16 pm (UTC)If it's ten inches long or longer, donate it to Locks Of Love. that's what I did when I had twelve inches of my hair hacked off.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.

Date: 2002-09-17 05:54 pm (UTC)I'll have to see it in person, but the cam shot actually looks pretty good. I didn't think I'd like your hair short, but it has appeal. And I'm sure is MUCH cooler.

I have to admit that although I cut off my hair in 1997, I haven't done this with it yet. I have the stuff, the braiding table, the bobbins, the patterns, etc - and I've done a few sample projects, but haven't done any full-scale projects with it yet. The plan is to make a watch fob. It's a lot of work, but very cool once it's done. This was all the rage in the first half of the 1800's, and was done for sweetheart gifts as well as memorials.
